Stockholm, “The Venice of the North”, is based on water. Perhaps Stockholm’s most distinctive quality is the interplay between the city and the wild nature which surrounds and traverses it. During 2010 Stockholm is the first city to be European Green Capital awarded by the European Commission.

Experience Stockholm and it's nature

Stockholm Archipelago is a nature paradise offering something for everyone with its whispering pine trees, smooth islets and colourful orchid meadows. There are over 25,000 islands and smaller skerries just in the area around Stockholm, which have risen slowly after the last ice age some 10,000 years ago.

Stockholm is the ideal setting for a combination of adventure and city life. Try our Stockholm Active Week to experience the jewels on Stockholm and it's surroundings!

This is a week tour. The itinerary is as follows: 

Sunday

Arrival. Own transfer to hotel.

Monday – Guided bike tour and Wildlife safari

11.00 am- 1.30 pm. Guided bicycle tour starting in Gamla stan (the Old Town) Explore the city on your own the rest of the day. 8-12 pm (approx): Wildlife safari by bus. We will also do a short hike (15 minutes) in the forest so bring suitable shoes. The tour starts between 1900 and 2030 depending on time for sunset. (B)

Tuesday-Wednesday – self guided biking or walking

Days for own self guided activities. Visit the Vasa museum, stroll in the old town or continue exploring the nature so close to the city of Stockholm. We will supply detailed information with maps at arrival. (B)

Thursday – kayaking the Archipelago

Our kayak tour is at an easy tempo to suit both beginners and more experienced alike. Most who paddle with us have no previous experience, but the techniques are easy to learn. After a short training session we set off on our journey of discovery. Our tour guides are experienced paddlers also with knowledge of the archipelago, its history, flora and fauna. They know their way to the finest islands, skerries and inlets. Surprisingly few visitors come here and it is easy for us to find a deserted island to take a swim and stop for a rest with a well-prepared lunch. Anyone can do it! If you of some reason don´t want to participate in the kayaking you can also do nice walks starting from our kayak base.

Saturday – Full day hike to Tyresta National Park

8.30 am – 4.30 pm: Full day hike with a specialist nature guide at a comfortable pace in Stockholm's closest wilderness and learn more about this unique natural environment and its fascinating history. Perhaps we'll hear the call of the black throated diver while we enjoy a fine picnic lunch with view over Lake Årsjön's smooth cliffs. Picnic lunch at one of the lakes. (12 km walking, bus 1 hr). Public transport

Stockholm has excellent and efficient public transport. Public transport is a way of seeing the daily life of a city. It is often also faster than to tackle the traffic jams of the capital. In this itinerary we have included public transport with a 7-days card on which you can travel as much as you want on commuter trains, the metro, buses and the ferries in the harbour.

Hotel

We will stay in a three star hotel within short walking distance to parks, restaurants and interesting sights. The metro is close by.

Meals

A hearty buffet breakfast is included every day. The Kayak and Tyresta days a well prepared lunch is included as picnics. The hotel has two guest kitchens where you can prepare you own meals.

The activities

We have designed the activities so that everyone with some interest in an active holiday can participate. The hiking and biking are done in a comfortable pace. The kayaking is done in very stable one and two man kayaks. Most participants have little previous experience form kayaking. You will, however, have even more fun if you prepare yourself at home with some practise. Good hiking boots are necessary for Tyresta. For the kayaking you just need to bring some warm clothes and an extra change (to be on the safe side). Rain clothes can come in handy even though weather in Stockholm mostly is fair in the summer. The archipelago is among the sunniest areas of Sweden. We require that the participants in the kayaking can swim.
